How to Publish a Poetry Book: Insights from Mona Hemant Bakshi

How to Publish a Poetry Book

Hello, poetry enthusiasts! It’s been a while since many of you have shown interest in how I crafted my poetry book, Waves of Emotions. Today, I’m excited to share the journey of writing and publishing this collection, along with some valuable tips on how to publish a poetry book.

1. Embrace Your Unique Voice

When writing a poetry book, authenticity is key. It’s crucial to pen down your genuine emotions and experiences. Don’t strive to mimic someone else’s style; instead, cultivate your own voice. Each poet has a unique style and genre, and that’s what makes their work special. Even if you sometimes feel your vocabulary isn’t as rich or your writing isn’t as sophisticated as others, remember that your unique perspective is what matters most.

2. Develop Your Vocabulary

While it’s essential to stay true to your style, improving your vocabulary can enhance your poetry. Aim to use language that is accessible yet impactful. The art of vocabulary lies in choosing words that resonate with your readers, making your poetry both relatable and profound.

3. Stay Confident and True to Your Views

Self-doubt is a natural part of any creative process. There were moments when I questioned the depth of my vocabulary and the quality of my work. During these times, I relied on my faith, my followers, and most importantly, myself. Stay confident in your abilities and remain steadfast in your creative vision. No two individuals think alike, so honor your own perspectives and views, regardless of external opinions.

4. Publishing Your Poetry Book

Publishing a poetry book involves several steps. First, finalize your manuscript and seek feedback from trusted sources. Next, explore publishing options. You can choose traditional publishing, which involves submitting your manuscript to publishers, or self-publishing, where you retain full control over the process. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Threads can also provide exposure and connect you with a supportive community of poets and readers.

5. Embrace Feedback and Keep Improving

Receiving feedback is an essential part of growth. Although my first book, Waves of Emotions, was well-received, I’ve recognized areas for improvement. Every writer's journey is filled with learning and evolving, and embracing constructive criticism will help you grow as a poet.

Writing and publishing a poetry book is a journey filled with ups and downs. Remember, stay true to your voice, enhance your vocabulary, and keep confidence in your unique style. Use social media platforms to engage with fellow poets and readers. I hope these insights into how to publish a poetry book will inspire and guide you in your literary journey.

Keep writing, stay passionate, and may your words touch hearts just as mine have.
